"War Crimes: Guilt and Responsibility"



The Third Forum of the Peace Institute conveyed on the 24th May 2001 in Cankarjev Dom.

Forum discussed the issues at stake in confronting the recent reality of war and war crimes in the territories of former Yugoslavia. The questions of immediate responsibility and political accountability were raised. What is the role of the International War Tribunal and the attempts at formation of truth and reconciliation committees? What is the importance and the necessity for confrontation with the past and the unveiling of truth? How to resume normalcy? How are these problems dealt with in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, in Croatia, and in Slovenia? How do these questions shape our present and the future stability in the territories of Southeast Europe?

The discussion panel included:

  • Ivan Zvonimir Čičak, a Croatian publicist;

  • Dr Žarana Papić, The University of Belgrade, Central European University of Budapest;

  • Dr Tonči Kuzmanić, researcher at the Peace Institute

The forum was moderated by Dr Vlasta Jalušič, Director of the Peace Institute.
